International Sportsperson Visa
An Overview
If you qualify for any of the following, you can apply for an International Sportsperson visa:
- You meet the eligibility criteria
- You are recognized by your sport’s governing body as a qualified coach or a top sportsperson.
- Your application is being endorsed by your sport’s governing body
- Your sports will be developed in the UK due to your employment
Process Duration
Your application needs to be sent within 3 months before your joining date, along with identification proof and proper documentation. For doing all this through an appointment, then you need an additional time bracket.
How soon can one get a decision?
After your online application has been submitted, the decision time varies for different individuals, but you can speed up the process by paying for it.
- For individuals based out of the UK, it is 3 weeks
- For individuals based in the UK, it is 8 weeks
Cost of the Process
For you and each of your dependents you need to:
- Pay the fee for the application
- Have proof that you have adequate personal savings
- Pay for yearly healthcare charges; £624 yearly
Fee for Application
The fee varies according to the duration of your stay. If it’s up to 12 months, then it’s £244 for each individual. It depends on the following if it is more than 12 months:
- £610 for each individual applying from outside the UK
- £704 for each individual applying for either extension or switching visa type while being in the UK
There is a £55 fee reduction in the application if you are in the category of eligible countries. This is only for the individual under this specific visa and not their dependents.
Duration of Stay
The normal visa is for up to 3 years, but after that, you can still apply for a visa extension. Moreover, after 5 years you are eligible to permanently settle in the UK
What you can/cannot do
You can:
- Work as a volunteer
- Work a sports broadcaster job
- Travel internationally and come back to the UK
- Bring your dependent to the UK if they fulfill the criteria
- Work another job under different circumstances
Study if it doesn’t clash with your work schedule that you are sponsored for Work a job under your sponsorship certificate
Play for your national team based in the UK
You cannot:
- Work as a volunteer
